Nike launched the Nike Kobe 6 Protro Grinch, a new chapter in the Kobe 6 series, near the end of 2020. The Kobe 6 Grinch made its debut on Christmas Day of 2010 during a historic game between LeBron James' Miami Heat and Kobe Bryant's Los Angeles Lakers. This is the first Kobe 6 to be designed using the Kobe Protro method, which upgrades traditional Kobe designs with cutting-edge technology to boost performance.

The Nike Kobe 6 Grinch first bears striking similarities to the original pair from 2010 thanks to its Green Apple and Volt textured, snake-inspired upper, which pays homage to Kobe's Black Mamba namesake. The shoe's reptile vibe is further enhanced by a green transparent outsole, red Kobe branding on the tongue, and a black Swoosh. However, as this is a Protro, some distinctions exist. With less traction and a more responsive Zoom Air cushioning system, the revised Kobe 6 Grinch offers a better court feel. Even the silhouette design is changed to offer a more streamlined, lower fit.
